Comment on The Marriage Strike And THEN Some! by GG

Wow! No wonder men are scared, this type of story scares me and I'm a woman. I have seen men who have been affected by this type of behavior you are describing above. Hopefully it's not the norm. I too have divorced twice and not once did I take either of my exes to the cleaners. I guess it would depend on what these men put these women through in their marriages as to why they would get as much as possible.

I agree that if the man is a good man and the woman is just unhappy or bored within the marriage that she should not take him for all he is worth. Fair is fair, and if they have put their energy into the marriage to make it successful, then she deserves an equal share as does he. I too hate to see either men or women unfairly treated financially (or in respect to any children) during a divorce settlement.

My hope for you is that you meet people who have succeeded in marriage, those who have found partners who are honest and not manipulating, and that one day your fears of marriage are not tainted by the bad behavior of a few "bad apples." This "marriage strike" can be reversed for all of the women that have suffered at the hand of men who abuse and neglect them and their children in marriage and outside of marriage. Would you want the woman that is right for you fearing your value as a man based on the bad behavior of those "bad apples" that she has either heard about or encountered in her life? I think not.

My best suggestion is to take your time getting to know the values of any prospective mate. There is a lot to be said about "old school" courting. If you allow others to fill your head with negatives you will never see the woman that is right for you, even if she is sitting right in front of you.

Remember this ... fear is:

False
Evidence
Appearing
Real

Use your fears as a precautionary measure, examine the facts and then step outside your comfort zone and live your life to the fullest!

PS Be careful at those Halloween parties, you want to make sure the mask your date is wearing is the only one she has to take off when the evening is over!

For the amount of money these people pay for matchmaking services they have a right to be as choosy, self centered and shallow as they like. If the woman wants to meet a man with a head full of hair...thats her prerogative! My god...she's paying for it!

I agree about matchmaking services. They charge so much money and then don't do the work necessary to find suitable prospects. They just provide those that have listed with the agency. I'd expect them to go out looking for that kind of money!

As for stalking, I think everyone needs to be responsible for the risks they take and dating is a risk. Whether you meet someone at a bar or a party or through a matchmaker or on the internet, you are the only one who can hear that inner voice we all have that tells us what's right for us. When we make stupid choices it's because we don't listen to it.

I was a single parent first in my early twenties and married a great guy who took on the responsibility of my then 4 year old son. We later had a son of our own but unfortunately the marriage fell apart...leaving me again as a single parent, this time with 2 kids and in my 30's!

I have since remarried, my boys now 15 and 25 and my new husband (who had never been married or had kids) has taken on his new role...friend and mentor. He has never tried to take on the 'father' role as he figured the eldest didnt need one at that point in his life and the youngest still has a very close relationship with his dad.

BTW...I met my new husband...online! :)

Many people assume that friends with benefits is only for married people who are cheating and that's very much not so. I know of many people who are single but haven't found the right one but HAVE found someone who'll be ok for now.

To meet the same person over and over for intimacy, touching and even sex is better than these people missing out I think. Nothing feels better than a hug. :)
